The Johnny-C Guiding Story

John first experienced the magic of fishing by watching a local fisherman at only four years old. From there, his Grandmother helped him rig up a stick, line, and hook. The rest is history.

John’s first adventures began in the Canadian rivers and lakes. He is a self-taught surfcaster, who is plugged into the latest gear, techniques and island ecosystem. In 2009, he arrived in Martha’s Vineyard at the age of 12. The Island opened his eyes to the magic of the ocean. It was here that he met with a family friend who was a seasonal fisherman. Together, they used live eels to catch stripers from the shore and learned the art of fileting fish.

John received his outdoor education degree at Colorado Mountain College. He went on to become a Fly Fishing Guide at a ranch in Colorado where he acquired valuable experience. Then, he was pulled back to the magic of the Vineyard’s beaches and ocean water.

Because of his diverse experiences in fishing, John is exceptionally knowledgeable about the best fishing locations on the Island. He has a strong sense of how to navigate the Vineyard shores and the weather and ocean elements to find the best catches on any given day. He believes that if one spot is not productive, another will be better. John feels very lucky to have met so many wonderful people on the Island where he has made great connections.
